Roles and responsibilities of Work Package 4

Work Package 4 (WP4) is responsible for the development of European practice-oriented guidelines for the prevention of type 2 diabetes. To achieve this, three working groups will be established, each with a specific responsibility in the development of the guidelines:

Working group 1

will focus on strategies for identifying high-risk individuals

Working group 2

will develop recommendations for efficient lifestyle intervention

Working group 3

will develop recommendations for pharmacologic intervention of type 2 diabetes.

The needs of children and adolescents will be a particular focus in the development of the guidelines.

The successful development of the proposed guidelines will include a review of current evidence to determine the scope of information to be included.

The results of each working group will be aggregated into a practice-oriented concept for diabetes prevention, which outlines and defines core requirements, measures, goals and examples for the practical implementation of successful diabetes prevention programmes.

The final draft of the guidelines will be subject to internal review and agreed through consensus by all members of the IMAGE project. The final step will be a pilot study during which the acceptance and practicability of the guidelines will be tested by a select number of medical professionals in Europe. The guidelines will also be reviewed externally before publication.
